Interview
.
I had a job interview today! After a year and a half of searching, someone finally gave me an interview! Which went very well, I think. I answered all their questions well. I left a good impression. And I'm well versed in customer service.
But the various companies I've worked for over the years are all out of business. How do you give work references when the people you worked for are gone? My lack of references have made it very hard to get an interview.
But now I've gotten an interview. I even took a typing test and alphabetized a list of fake names. I was there for about 2 hours and was interviewed by 2 separate people. I believe that's a good sign. After 18 months, belief is about all I have left.

There was a point when I was tempted to break out into "I hope I get it" from A Chorus Line... "I really need this job... Please God, I need this job...I've got to get this job!"

Admittedly, that point was just a few minutes ago while I was composing this blog entry; but still... There was a point.

There are 4 applicants for 2 or 3 positions, so if I'm halfway good, I've got the job. :D
$7.25/hour here I come!

Please?

Racing Falcon
.

Driving home from the snake food store, I spotted a bird like an oversized pidgeon. It was flying about a block ahead of me. It didn't fly like a pidgeon, and I wondered if it was a Peregrine falcon. As I completed that thought, the bird swept up into the sky. I could see it's outline then, and I knew it was indeed a Peregrine falcon.
The falcon stayed framed against the blue sky for two wingbeats, then swept down until it was level with my truck.

I had been driving the speed limit - 35 mph. I slowed down to 30. The falcon stayed even with me for a few dozen yards, then fell behind. He was so close, that I could have rolled down my window and almost touched him. He was flying exactly at eye level with me.

How cool is that?

Oh, and the hawk that watches me drive L to school most mornings is a Harris hawk.

Waaaah!

This morning, the Hubby-Man was rubbing a spot on the truck. I looked over and saw a foot long scratch on my paint. I was shocked. How could there be a massive scratch that I didn't know about? How can somebody drag that much paint off of another person's property and even bother to leave an apology? What the fuck is wrong with people?!?

It's way up high, too. It must have been another truck or an SUV. I should be pissed, but I'm mostly sad. I try to keep my truck nice looking. :(

Well, at least it's not a dent.

Freak Show
.
Said today by Amy, "Dances In Dragon, the world is your freak show."

I laughed aloud. Because she's right. The world is my freak show. Everything is interesting... downright fascinating, even.
It isn't just people. It's everything. From strange squirrel behaviour to a sunny blue sky to the people who have the balls to wear a Jayne Cobb hat in public...

Thanks, life. This is sooo worth two bits.

And I guess I'll have to watch some Ice Skating. I like Bobsledding more, though.

Birth Day
.
Amy gave birth to a very healthy 7lb 2oz baby boy at 2:07 pm Wednesday afternoon! And I got to be there! It was, as all births are; a magical experience. I was running around trying to take pictures and my eyes were all blurry with tears.

I don't want to spoil Amy's chance to tell the story, so I'll leave it here for now. Just know that there's a lot more to tell... involving phone calls and in-laws and ambulances; and everything turned out fine.
